Environmental pollution from re-rolling steel mills in Bangladesh, Pagla, Narayanganj - 05 May 2024
Pollutant fumes from re-rolling steel mills in Narayanganj's Pagla have created a thick fog-like cover even in the scorching heat of this summer. These factories are one of the reasons for the increase in temperature in Bangladesh. Due to this smoke many times the sun is not visible during the day. Despite complaints from local residents, this extreme environmental pollution is not being stopped. There are more than a hundred mills in this area. Residents are at serious health risk due to toxic black smoke. Living in such an environment for a long time increases the risk of cancer. At the same time, the risk of lung, kidney complications, heart disease, respiratory tract inflammation, pneumonia, and bronchitis is greatly increased. Local people in these areas suffer from eczema, asthma, dysentery and malaria.
