Luke Sinnott with his training aircraft 'Spirit of Bader' in the hanger. An army veteran who lost both his legs in Afghanistan is now on course to become the first double amputee commercial pilot since Sir Douglas Bader. Luke, who is also a British para-athlete, has learnt how to fly since he lost his legs above the knee in an explosion in Afghanistan in 2010. He has obtained his private pilot's licence and now has his sights set on his commercial one after being fitted with bespoke revolutionary prosthetic knee sockets. The high-tech prosthetics enable Luke to control the foot pedals for the rudder and brakes of a 100 tonne jet aircraft that carry airline passengers as well as handling the steering column.
