China sees Taiwan as its breakaway province and forces Taiwan to attend international organizations and sports events as 'Chinese-Taipei'. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has warned that holding the name-change referendum could make Taiwan lose its membership in IOC making Taiwanese athletes unable to attend international sports events.
