China's young job seekers are faced with record high youth unemployment as the economy struggles to recover from the pandemic. The issue is especially worrisome in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai as a new high-record of 11.6 million college students are set to graduate in 2023 and seek jobs in an already overcrowded market. One in five young people ages 16 to 24 in Chinese cities are out of work currently where the youth unemployment rate has risen to 20.8 percent in May 2023, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
