Kathmandu bans selling goods from bicycles ahead World Bicycle Day, Nepal - 01 Jun 2023

Sujit's father migrated from India to Kathmandu 27 years ago and was also a street vendor who was using a bicycle to sell his goods. Sujit has been selling fruits for the past 12 years, carrying on his father's legacy. However, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has recently banned the sale of goods from bicycles and handcarts due to unauthorized business on the roads causing disruptions to public traffic. As a result, hundreds of bicycles have been seized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and dumped at a landfill. This new rule is causing worry for Sujit and hundreds of other bicycle vendors in Kathmandu. The UN has declared 03 June as 'World Bicycle Day' to emphasize the bicycle as 'an instrument of sustainable transportation' that 'conveys a positive message to foster sustainable consumption and production, and has a positive impact on climate', as the UN describes it on their website.Důležité informace
