Elephants, South Africa - Mar 2024
These mischievous elephants splash a photographer as they drink at a water hole in the heat of the day. They were splashing photographer Phillip Chang in South Africa. He said, 'The elephants were very naughty. I'm not sure if they were happy or mad to see us but the big guys deliberately blew muddy water at us - I got so wet and dirty when taking the pictures. But it was quite funny and I really enjoyed watching the family having a splashing time.' Both the Warthogs and Elephants pictures were taken from an open hide in South Africa in early March of 2024. At the time, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius, it was extremely hot and dry. It was harsh on humans, but perfect for wildlife photography. There was constant activity around the pond because it was hard for the animals to find other water sources. We didn't have to wait long for animals because they were always coming and going; we just didn't know what we would see. During the nighttime, though, it was much quieter, and the only visitors were larger animals such as lions, leopards, and buffalos. We waited for hours to see one or two of them. We were in close proximity with the animals, but as long as we didn't make sudden moves or loud noises, they didn't seem to mind at all. Because of the presence of many animals, I had the luxury to choose unique and interesting frames to shoot. The mirrored warthogs were one of these. To answer your question, yes, I noticed that, and it was actually a picture by design. The elephants were very naughty. I am not sure if they were happy or mad to see us, but these big guys deliberately ejected muddy water at us. We all got wet and dirty when shooting them. It was quite funny.
