Egypt marks centenary of King Tut's tomb discovery, Luxor - 04 Nov 2022

Tourists visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun as Egypt marks the 100th anniversary of its discovery, in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt, 04 November 2022. Egypt is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the 3,000-year-old tomb of the Golden King Tutankhamun that was made on 04 November 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter. The tomb of King Tut, also known as KV62, was almost the only discovered tomb not breached by grave robbers in the Valley of the Kings with more than 5,000 pieces, most of them were gold, including his funerary mask, gold sandals, an outer gold-gilded wooden coffin and innermost coffin of solid gold. Tutankhamun's mummy and sarcophagus are still on display in the tomb, while many of the funerary objects discovered were displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square and will be transferred to the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza when it opens.
