The Greek rescue mission to help Turkey with two devastating earthquakes departs from Elefsina military airport to the Incirlik airport base, Greece, 06 February 2023. The mission includes 21 firefighters from the emergency unit EMAK, 2 rescue dogs, and a special rescue mission vehicle. Also flying with them are a Fire Brigade officer specializing in supporting collapsed buildings, 5 emergency doctors from the EKAV ambulance emergency system, and the president of Greece's Organization of Antiseismic Planning and Protection, Efthymios Lekkas. According to the US Geological Service, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.8 struck southern Turkey close to the Syrian border. The earthquake caused buildings to collapse and sent shockwaves over northwest Syria, Cyprus, and Lebanon. Hundreds of people have died and more than seven thousand have been injured in Turkey, according to AFAD, Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency.
