Eskom, the national power supplier, has been regularly implementing stage load shedding nationally due to various factors, including breakdowns at power stations and corruption and mismanagement that has plagued the power utility for more than a decade. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a raft of new emergency measures to deal with South Africa's electricity crisis. These include the complete scrapping of licencing requirements for private energy projects, and more relaxed regulations in the sector.
