Dr. Alexander Fleming, Scottish biologist, in his laboratory at St Marys, Paddington, London, c. 1940-45. He discovered the antibiotic penicillin in 1928. During World War 2, Howard Walter Florey and Ernst Boris Chain conducted medical trials, and developed industrial scale production of penicillin. All three shared the 1945 Nobel Prize for Medicine.
