Romanian rescue teams sent to areas affected by earthquake in Turkey, Otopeni, Romania - 08 Feb 2023
A Romanian rescue unit boards the Romanian military transport C-27J Spartan aircraft before to be deployed to Southern Turkey to help local authorities in their rescue missions after the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, at the military airbase no. 90, in Otopeni, near Bucharest, Romania, 08 February 2023. A C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, from the Multinational Strategic Transport Unit operating from the Papa Air Base in Hungary, as well as three Romanian Air Force aircraft took off on Wednesday to Adana, Turkey, to carry out aerial missions in support of the Turkish population affected by the earthquakes that recently hit the area. The two other Romanian military transport aircrafts carry on board an RO-USAR rescue team, including rescue dogs, medical personnel, materials and search-rescue equipment, as well as strictly necessary material goods. More than 11,000 people have died and thousands more injured after two major earthquakes struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on 06 February.
