Stoltenberg, Trudeau and Sanchez visit Adazi Base, Latvia - 08 Mar 2022
Latvian President Egils Levits (3-L), Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (2-L), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg (3-R), Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (2-R), Canadian Minister of National Defence Anita Anand (R) and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez (L) visit the Adazi Military Base in Latvia, 08 March 2022. During visit, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with NATO eFP troops and were briefed about military exercises. Latvia has received NATO reinforcements on the alliance's eastern flank, bordering Russia, in the build-up to the war. Canada leads the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) contingent in Latvia while Spain has the second-largest number of troops deployed in the battlegroup. Both countries recently announced significant increases in their troop numbers as a result of the war in Ukraine.
