According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), about 40 million Filipinos still lack access to a formal water supply while 74 million of the population have access to piped and potable water. The DENR has called for a concerted effort among local government units to address the situation and ensure access to clean and potable water supply for all. World Water Day is observed annually on 22 March, to highlight the global need for access to safe and clean water.
