In recent months, the textile industry in Indonesia has faced a wave of layoffs Employment Relations (PHK). This was triggered by the latest policy issued by the government, namely Minister of Trade Regulation Number 8 of 2024 concerning Import Policies and Regulations. "Apart from the textile industry, workers in the courier and logistics industry are also threatened with massive layoffs." Thereby was conveyed by the President of the Labor Party who is also the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal. In response to this situation, thousands of workers who are members of the Labor Party and KSPI will hold an action demonstration, Wednesday (3/7). This action started in front of the State Palace and will be continued with a long march walk to the Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Transportation, and the Supervisory Commission Business Competition (KPPU) in the afternoon. According to Said Iqbal, this action brought several demands, namely: 1. Stop laying off textile workers. 2. Revoke Minister of Trade Regulation Number 8 of 2024 concerning Import Policies and Regulations. 3. Protect domestic industry, especially the textile, courier and logistics, and steel industries. 4. Cancel the Director General of Land Transportation's regulations that allow foreign online applicators/platforms opening a courier and logistics services business. 5. Stop unhealthy competition from foreign courier and logistics services owned by foreign platforms such as Shopee, Blibli, Tokopedia, etc., with domestic courier services such as J&T, Pos Indonesia, etc. 6. Avoid the threat of layoffs of tens of thousands of workers in the courier and logistics industry, including at Pos Indonesia. 7. The Business Competition Supervisory Commission must summon Shopee, Blibli, Tokopedia, etc., to ban them foreign platforms come into play in the courier and logistics services business.
