The wild boar population has increased in the area they often appear in the center of the towns that are people are restricted to return to live, like Futaba and Okuma, the location of TEPCO's nuclear power plant. Boar meat is strictly prohibited to eat in this area due to radioactive contamination. The tsunami following the magnitude 9.0 earthquake devastated Unit 1 to 4 at the TEPCO's nuclear power plant in 11 March 2011. The seventh anniversary of the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan and triggered a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant will be marked on 11 March 2018.
