Margaret Thatcher's handbags auction, London, UK - 10 Apr 2023
The handbag on its protective case.
She was famous for giving her political opponents a 'handbagging'.
Now one of Margaret Thatcher's trusted 'weapons' which she carried with her during her time as Prime Minister has sold for over £8,800.
The grey shagreen leather handbag, made by French fashion house Chaumet, is thought to date from the late 1980s.
It has an 18-carat gold clasp and chain, with a cabochon sapphire, and inside is written in black ink 'Grey dress bag', probably by Mrs Thatcher herself.
