Explosive remnants of war put on display in Sana'a, Sanaa, Yemen - 03 Oct 2023

A member of a Yemeni demining team inspects explosive remnants of war on display at the Yemen Executive Mine Action Center (YEMAC) in Sana'a, Yemen, 03 October 2023. The Houthis administration-run center held an exhibition showcasing explosive remnants of war, including cluster bombs, landmines, unexploded shells and other weapons or munitions, which were collected from several sites of Yemen. The center accused the Saudi-led coalition of using over three million cluster munitions in nearly 2,900 airstrikes carried out on Yemen since the outbreak of the war in 2015, causing over 9,000 casualties. Yemen is heavily contaminated by millions of landmines and explosive remnants of war, posing an ongoing threat to the lives of many communities living in conflict-affected areas of the Arab country, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned. Landmines and unexploded remnants of war have caused at least 150 civilian casualties in Yemen during the first half of 2023, while 37 Yemenis, including 12 children, were casualties in the explosions of landmines and other remnants of war in August 2023, according to estimates by the YEMAC.
