A new study has revealed seven in 10 Brits have changed their energy habits to offset rising energy bills. In response to the confusion, Smart Energy GB has co-authored the Super Smart Savers Energy Report with consumer champions Helen Skelton (pictured) and Dominic Littlewood, and money-saving website Money Magpie. The report provides actionable advice to help British households manage energy use and household budgets.Despite making changes, a quarter are confused about conflicting energy available publicly, leading 66% to regularly make changes which have little to no impact, and below are the most common myths: 1. Hand-washing all dishes rather than turning on the dishwasher - 32%2. Keeping the heating on permanently at a low setting instead of turning it on and off - 22%3. Leaving TVs, computers and electronic devices in sleep or hibernate mode overnight - 21% But there are a number of methods which can reduce energy with these amongst the most commonly tried effective methods: 1. Only filling the kettle with the amount needed rather than fully - 50%2. Improving insulation at home (e.g. draught excluders, double-glazed windows) - 37%3. Turning the TV off completely when not in use - 34% The research of 5,000 British adults also found almost half (48%) now have a smart meter to receive accurate, rather than estimated bills and monitor what energy is being used, in near-real time. 47% of smart meter users say that having one installed has helped them to feel more in control of energy use, and 54% to better understand it. Simply by having a smart meter and using it to adjust their energy use, people believe they're able to reduce their bills by an average of £366.24 over the course of a year.
