U.S. and U.K. Armed Forces Conduct Air Strikes Against Houthi Military Targets in Yemen, Cyprus - 12 Jan 2024

An RAF Typhoon aircraft returns to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus after taking part in U.S.-led coalition to conduct air strikes against military targets in Yemen on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Houthi rebels have been targeting merchant vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden with missiles and drones - putting lives at risk, threatening the global economy, and destabilizing the region. On January 9, HMS Diamond, along with U.S. warships, successfully repelled the largest attack from the Iranian-backed Houthis in the Red Sea to date. Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have increased 500% between November and December. The threat has become so great that major shipping companies have ceased sailing in the region, and insurance costs have risen ten-fold since early December. Photo via U.K. Ministry of Defense/UPI
