Ukraine marks the 37th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster - 26 Apr 2023

On 26 April 1986, the Unit 4 reactor at the Chernobyl power station blew apart. In response, Soviet authorities tried to contain the situation by sending thousands of poorly equipped personnel to clean up the ejected radioactive material, and many of them died as a result of it. The explosion of Unit 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is still regarded as the biggest accident in the history of nuclear power generation.
