Royal Windsor Triathletes Sick After Swimming in River Thames, Windsor, Berkshire, UK - 09 Jun 2024

Triathletes swimming in the River Thames in Windsor, Berkshire in the Royal Windsor Triathlon. Some competitors who took part in the Royal Windsor Triathlon on Sunday 9th June 2024, have reportedly been ill after swimming in the River Thames. Competitors have told the BBC they have "suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea after swimming in the River Thames. Rebecca Norman, from Reading, said she had to go to A&E after feeling sick 24 hours after the Royal Windsor Triathlon on Sunday. The 21-year-old shared her experience on social media and had seen several other people also report being seriously ill since the race". "Organisers Human Race said it conducted water tests in the weeks leading up to the event and on the day which "met the standards set by the British Triathlon Federation (BTF)". The sickness news comes as no surprise to locals as although the Environment Agency Event Duration Monitors have not shown any sewage discharges by Thames Water into the River Thames in Windsor since April, there continues to be a stench of sewage coming from Roundmoor Ditch in nearby Eton Wick which feeds into the River Thames. Thames Water turned Roundmoor Ditch grey with sewage discharges earlier this year and some fish died following the sewage discharges
