According to local customs, Shanghai's imports and exports during the first 10 months of this year reached a total of 3.51 trillion yuan, which is roughly equivalent to 490.1 billion U.S. dollars. This reflects a year-on-year increase of 1.9 percent. During this period, Shanghai's exports increased by 2.3 percent to 1.44 trillion yuan, while imports rose by 1.6 percent to 2.07 trillion yuan. Data from Shanghai Customs showed that Shanghai's trade with the European Union amounted to 711.15 billion yuan, accounting for 20.2 percent of its total foreign trade volume during the period. In the same period, Shanghai exported 1 trillion yuan worth of mechanical and electrical products, which is 69.3 percent of the city's total export value. At the same time, the city imported 473.59 billion yuan worth of consumer goods, accounting for 22.9 percent of the total import value.
