Nakba day commemoration in UCL, London - 15 May 2024
Students are seen clapping and shouting slogans during the Nakba day commemoration at the front garden of the University College London. Following up similar demonstrations in the US universities. Student protests and encampments emerged at the universities in UK including London, Oxford, Cambridge, Canterbury as a response to the Israel-Gaza war. University College London (UCL) started to demonstrate nearly two weeks the students and UCL staff marked the 76th anniversary of the Nakba. Nakba means literally 'catastrophe' in Arabic, refers to a mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians back in 1948 during the Arab-Israeli war.
