Operation Mudlark, River Thames, Erith, Kent, UK - 08 Jun 2023
"Operation Mudlark" was a Joint Emergency Services training exercise organised by Gravesend RNLI involving the RNLI, Metropolitan Police (air and river) and London Fire-brigade held at Erith Pier to practice the scenario of a rescue of a casualties trapped in the mud on the River Thames foreshore. A police helicopter first flew above the pier to locate the causally and contacting the police boat Sir Robert Peel III who escorted London Fire Brigade fireboat Errington to the emergency scene. The fireboat lowered the bow ramp and the crew used inflatable duck boards to reach the casualty dummy. A Fire Brigade Officer used a pressurised probe to break the suction of the mud around the casualty so the victim could be secured onto a spinal injuries board and transported back to the fireboat. Once the 'casualty' was safely aboard, the fire boat docked at a nearby jetty so the 'casualty' could be taken to an ambulance.
