Easter procession 'Marching Judas' on 'White Saturday' in the village of Stradoun, Czech Republic - 30 Mar 2024
A boy dressed in a hay suit, accompanied by boys with wooden rattles, walks through the streets during an Easter procession called 'Marching Judas' in the village of Stradoun, Czech Republic, 30 March 2024. The 'Marching Judas' is an old Czech Easter tradition, in which the oldest teenage boy in the village is dressed up in a hay suit and a high cap made of reed, symbolizing Judas the apostle who betrayed Jesus Christ. Accompanied by other teenagers, the boy walks through the village, house by house, pushing wooden rattles and reciting a carol about Judas' betrayal. The tradition takes place in several villages in the Pardubice region. It was added to the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.
