First eruption 2023 at Piton de La Fournaise, Sainte-Rose, France - 02 Jul 2023

After a seismic crisis starts 07:36 local time, a eruptive crack opened on the eastern side of the volcano at about 8:30 am, about 2000 m ? altitude north of the Piton Vouvoul. The prefect of La Reunion declected the phase of ? alert 2-1 of the ORSEC volcano device: eruption in ? enclosures ? no particular threat to the safety of persons, property or ? environment. The public access to the site ? the entire enclosure of the Piton de la Fournaise (high part, low part, large slopes), whether from the Pas de Bellecombe trail or from any other path, is forbidden until ? new order ?. Around 5:50 p.m., a new crack ? ? opened on the south-east side of the volcano to the ? ? inside ? ? Enclos Fouque. Currently, two eruptive sites are active, ? one to 2000 m ? ? altitude on the east side and the ? ? other on the south-east side on the heights of the Great Slopes. Since the beginning of ? eruption, a strong seismic activity is still recorded. Thus, 1156 superficial volcano-tectonic earthquakes beneath the summit and 38 deep volcano-tectonic earthquakes beneath the east flank were recorded between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time. This seismic activity is accompanied by the observation of numerous long-term signals indicating that the magmatic circulation is always active in depth. Given this high seismicite, especially under the eastern flank of the volcano, it ? not excluded that ? ? other eruptive cracks ? open, notably at lower altitude, and or out of Enclos, communicates the Volcanological Observatory of the Piton de La Fournaise. After a seismic crisis that began at 7:36 a.m. local time, an eruptive fissure opened on the eastern flank of the volcano around 8:30 a.m., at an altitude of about 2000 m north of Piton Vouvoul. The prefect of RÁ'union has triggered the 2-1 alert phase of the ORSEC volcano system: eruption in the enclosure without any particular threat to the safety of people, property or the environment. Public access to the entire Piton de la Fournaise enclosure (upper part, lower part, broad slopes), whether
