Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra visits his parent's Mausoleum in Chiang Mai. Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra returning to his hometown, Chiang Mai, after 17 years of living abroad as a fugitive. The former Prime Minister made his first public appearances since being freed early from a jail sentence and visited several locations in Chiang Mai including the Mausoleum of his father and mother, located on top of a mountain by the Huai Mae On Reservoir in San Kamphaeng District. Thaksin received a warm welcome from the locals as well as group of Redshirts despite wearing a soft cervical collar and a back brace. When questioned by the media about his health, the 74-year-old former Thai Prime Minister stated that he was on the path to recovery. This follows a prolonged illness that had previously exempted him from serving 8 years of jail time.
