Belgium offshore Wind farms, North Sea - 13 May 2022

Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten during a visit to Wind farms in the Belgian part of the North Sea, Belgium, 13 May 2022. Belgium Prime minister is invited by Belgian Offshore Platform (BOP) non-profit association of investors and owners of wind farms. Offshore wind energy in the Belgian North Sea amounts today to an installed capacity of 2,262 MW. This can generate an average of 8 TWh of green electricity per year, which is about 10 per cent of the total electricity demand in Belgium. Installed offshore wind capacity in Belgium ranks sixth in the world and second in terms of capacity per inhabitant. By 2030, the offshore wind capacity in the Belgian North Sea will be increased to 5.7 GW. Energy ministers from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as the European Commissioner for Energy, will meet at the North Sea Summit in Esbjerg on 18 May to discuss how to accelerate the buildout of renewable energy in the North Sea.
