Image released by Russia Ministry of Defense on Wednesday April 20, 2022 shows first launch of its new Sarmat super-heavy, land-based intercontinental ballistic missile, from a silo at the Plesetsk state testing cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Region at 15:12 Moscow time. The ministry said the missile was launched Wednesday from the Plesetsk launch facility in northern Russia and that its practice warheads hit designated targets at the Kura firing range on the far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. In a detailed statement, the Russian Ministry of Defence has explained that the Sarmat missile has unique characteristics that allow it to be guaranteed to overcome any existing and promising anti-missile defence systems. The new missile is capable of hitting targets at long ranges using a variety of flight trajectories and has the world\\\'s longest distance to hit targets, which will significantly enhance the combat power of our country strategic nuclear forces, it stated.
